Company History

Carlyn International Corporation was founded June 21, 1999 as a buyer and seller of wholesale surplus clothing goods. A decision was made in May 2001 to change the main focus of the company from surplus goods to school uniforms. A retail location was opened in May of 2002. Carlyn now supplies uniforms to approximately 60 public and private schools in Broward and Palm Beach counties. We also supply wearing apparel to several local businesses and police officers in Margate.

Meet The Owners

Anita M. Jacobs – President

Mrs. Jacobs was born in Guyana in South America and moved to the United States during August 1981. She became a citizen in 1984. Mrs. Jacobs' career began in New York as a bookkeeper and human resources specialist for a public relations firm and then moved to Florida in 1990. Mrs. Jacobs worked for Milway, a manufacturer of men’s women’s and children’s apparel as general manager until starting Carlyn in 1999. As general manager Mrs. Jacobs worked closely with several manufacturers both domestic and overseas learning production methods of textiles and finished goods. She traveled to Asia to establish quality controls at production facilities. Mrs. Jacobs also organized the distribution center and sales staff of 35 sales personnel located throughout the United States. Mrs. Jacobs left the company when it moved to Central America in 1999. She established Carlyn International Corporation the same year.


James R. Jacobs-Vice President

Mr. Jacobs was born in Toledo, Ohio He began his career as a banker in 1972 with the Lucas County State Bank in Toledo and later at Huntington National Bank in Columbus. He moved to Florida in 1979 and became Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at North Ridge Bank in Oakland Park and later the same at Orange State Bank in Miami. Mr. Jacobs joined Carlyn International in 2000. Mr. Jacobs has an A.A degree in Business Administration and a B.S. degree majoring in International Business and Small Business Management.
